The Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) was introduced in the 2009 Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships. All ships weighing over 500GT will be required to carry the Inventory of Hazardous Materials.
The purpose of an IHM survey is to provide ship owners, ship managers, crews, engineers and superintendents with a management report of all the hazardous materials on-board the vessel.
Part I Tables A and B of the IHM Survey is for newly built and active ships. Parts II & III Tables C and D of the IHM Survey, is more invasive in nature and will determine a more in-depth report, ideally aimed at vessels going for recycling in accordance with the Ships Recycling Regulations (SRR).
The main materials that the IHM survey covers are; Asbestos, PCB’s TBT’s ODS and PFOS. Other materials maybe determined in later part of the report (PBDE, PBB, Mercury & lead).
We provide IHM surveys thru our office strategically located at the Panama Canal from which we are able to serve Balboa, Cristobal and other ports in the region.
